LAKE CHARLES February 19, 2008-- Belinda Y. Hughes invites art lovers to experience her new online gallery at http://belinda-y-hughes.tripod.com/.
Images currently include sites throughout Southwest Louisiana, from shrimp boats at sunset on the Intracoastal Canal in
Cameron, to a shadowy cypress swamp at Sam Houston Jones State Park in Moss Bluff. Other works range from Iowa railroad scenes,
sunrises and sidewalks to the Bilbo Cemetery's Millennium Christ and Children with Dove statuary.
Mostly self-taught, Hughes is a member of Lake Area Photographers and http://www.foundmyself.com art communities. "I've
been fiddling with cameras since before 110s came in a big yellow box with film, batteries and a booklet for $40. Last holiday
season I turned out a few decent landscape photos with a recyclable camera. Then January of this year, I bought a small 4-in-1
digital camera and just cut loose with it." she says.
"This past weekend I woke up early, and shot Iowa, Bilbo Cemetery, and Sulphur at different sun positions: sunrise,
noon, sunset. The various effects of the traveling light were incredible, as well as the fascinating way the morning moisture
highlighted cracks in the Iowa sidewalks. It amazed me how a simple detail elevated them from mundane to irresistibly abstract."
